As a lifelong Michigander, I am supporting this initiative, co-chaired by the grandsons of Presidents Carter (D-GA) and Ford (R-MI), because what happened in the last election was unacceptable. Our leadership must be held accountable for telling the truth about election outcomes. Sowing distrust in our election system paves the way for autocracy and dictatorship. No one should be deceived into believing that our democracy is indestructible. A government “of the people, by the people, and for the people,” cannot survive if “the people” shirk their civic obligations and allow liars to impugn the credibility of our election officials and our democratic institutions. Our leaders need to do what is right, not what is expedient for their political careers. I want them to know that we are watching, and we will ensure that the rule of law is enforced.
