As a former municipal and county elected official and as a former appointed member of government boards and commissions, I understand the need for all elected officials to help governments define problems, develop solutions, present those solutions as proposed laws, codes, policies and budgets, obtain an approval vote of 50% plus at least one additional vote, preferably many additional votes, thus passing and implementing solutions to community problems. Elected officials must negotiate.
